Procedures for Oil Painting Portraiture Commissions
At the first meeting we discuss clothing for the portrait, where the portrait will hang, and the mood for the portrait. During this meeting I begin to understand the subjects's personality. We then begin a painting sketch. The painting sketch allows me to create the color palette for the painting. A $200.00 deposit is due at the first meeting.
Our second meeting will be the photo shoot where the photographer comes to take the pictures in the chosen location. At the third meeting I share the photographs and four are selected. At this time a final price for the portrait will determined and a contract will be signed.
After these initial meetings we meet again to discuss the preliminary design of the portrait painting. After approval of the preliminary design 50 percent of the portrait price is due.
The time schedule for an average painting is 2 months. Arrangement for delivery are made. At this time final payment is due.
Portrait framing is not included however I will be glad to suggest the appropriate framing. Six months after the portrait is complete I arrange a time when I apply the final coat of varnish.

Materials
It is my belief that the best materials must be used to create a "life time treasure". The wood used to support (stretch) the linen is of superior quality. I use linen rather than canvass for both the durability and texture. The paints are hand made by Williamsburg and are necessary to give the portrait the light quality that makes my work unique. Williamsburg Oil Paints are produced in the USA and are made from the finest pigments gathered from all over the world. The paint is manufactured in small batches and each pigment is ground and mixed according to its own individual characteristics. Only the finest pure, premium, alkali-refined and ph-balanced linseed oil is used. Every ounce of paint is checked and scrutinized before it is packed in non-reactive aluminum tubes. Williamsburg oils are used by the world's finest artists and can be seen in recent acquisitions in the finest museums.
